So you selected the Type tool, clicked once on the artboard on an unlocked layer and started typing? You can move the text into position once you see the text with the Selection tool.

Illustrator CS6 mouse vanishing
Hello,
I recently got a new Mac desktop computer and downloaded all the latest adobe products that I use onto it, but now illustrator has started a habit of glitching out on me. its freezes every once in a while but what really has gotten me frustrated is that my mouse disappears no matter what tool I am using and I only reappears if I shake it around a lot. My school computer is an older version of mac but it has the same version of illustrator on it and it hasn't caused me any problems before. I tend to use photoshop more than illustrator so I don't know fi there is an easy fix to this but I can't seem to find any answers. I know I have the latest update downloaded.
If anyone is able to help I would be very thankful as I have a tattoo I need to design.

Emergency:: Is there any way to open my PSD file with all of the layers still intact into Adobe Illustrator? It keeps opening as a flat image.
I have been designing the interface of an app for a friend on photoshop. I have all of my layers organized and ready to go for the app developer, but I need to convert the PSD files into AI in order for her to work on them. Every time I try to File>Open one of the files in AI I get a prompt that says:::
"This document has greater than 8-bit depth it will be imported as an 8-bit flat composite"
It then opens my file with all of the layers merged together as one flat image, leaving no room to edit anything! Is there any way to fix this at all? Is there any way I can open a PSD file into Adobe with all my layers still in tact? Can I increase the amount of bit depth in which Illustrator opens files? If I decrease my photoshop bit-depth will all of the layers open on AI?
Please help anybody!

Hi Raghuveer,
We haven't experienced many "out of RAM" warnings ( I have had one with Illustrator last week, but it was the first in about a month), but we are experiencing Illustrator suddenly quitting in the middle of tasks. It seems to happen in clusters (2 or 3 times in succession within an afternoon), and then not at all for days, which makes me think it is based on the particular file.
In particular, it seems more apt to happen when we are using textures and texture brushes in Illustrator, which already slow the computer down considerably, and then we experience Illustrator just quitting.
Please let me know if there is any other info I can give you at this time...

try placing the psd file into an already open ai doc, (file > place)
then choose 'embed' from the links panel,
it will then ask you if you want to treat it as layered items or as a single flat image.

No, that is not correct.
Folders can also be converted into layers, layers in folders can be converted in sublayers, at least in the latest version.
Removing those folders can result in a heavy change of the image, which might not be wanted. So, don't do that.
In newer versions the conversion in Illustrator has been improved.

Set all filling modes to normal, save as PSD, open that in Illustrator.
Change the color depth in Photoshop before as Illustrator cannot support more than 8bit per channel.

No, it will not make any difference as placing or opening a non-ai-file will always be handled as importing. Only with placing you will also convert the file in the file's color space. This could even result in more damage than opening it.

Same issue here, just trying to copy instantly shuts Illustrator down. Im using an iMac on El Capitan OS X.
I can do around four Command + C and then the next attempt will shut it down.

Artifacts when saving file
I'm getting some weird artifacts around an Illustrator image that is part of a larger image
If I place the file in a layer, then attempt to save it as anything from another Illustrator file to a PDF or even a JPG image there are spikes and fuzzies around part of the image. It seems to be a rendering issue, but everything I have tried so far is not helping except to save the image and then manually edit out the artifacts using Photoshop.
It wasn't happening all the time until tonight. In the past I was able to delete the layer, copy and place the original Illustrator file of the tiger again and save it and get a clean rendering until I saved the AI file. Once I did that, I would have to delete the layer again, replace it and save the file.
Tonight? The gremlins decided to mess up TC's hat each and every time I tried to render or save the file in any format...
Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Does the gray area that makes up the fill of the hat have a Stroke applied?
How many points does it consist of and how was it created?
Could you post a screenshot of that section enlarged considerably and with »Preview« turned off?

Why not just save a copy and reduce the bit depth of the copy to see what happens. The message seems clear, but clear messages have fooled us before... keep the high colour version for editing of course.

Display Driver stopped responding and has recovered - illustrator crashed
this is not the first time im having this issue, after research on google.. the solution i found is need to update the graphic driver, which i already did. but occasionally still having the same problem
after the screen went black and recover, the illustrator remain the same and doesnt recovered. i cant even save the file and need to force exit and reopen the illustrator. sometimes the [Recovered] version of file doesnt appear and all the work i have done is lost
someone please tell me what should i do to prevent the graphic card error message? i already update the graphic card driver and the problem doesnt go away
